EastEnders has aired a shock arrest as Billy and Keeble's story continues to unfold in Walford.

It was revealed in flashback scenes earlier this week that DCI Keeble's grudge against the Mitchell family goes back decades because Eric Mitchell killed her father in 1979.

Keeble blames Billy Mitchell for her father's death because he'd bought the firearm used in the shooting. This explains why Keeble is insistent on Phil bringing her information that would land Billy in prison.

In Wednesday's half-hour (September 7), Phil initially tried to get Billy to leave Walford by supposedly setting up a property deal in Portugal he wanted his relative to handle.

Billy was reluctant to leave since he'd just been reunited with Freddie Slater, so Phil told him about Keeble's grudge to get payback for her father.

With little choice but to leave, Billy confided in Honey Mitchell about what was going on. As he tried to make his escape from Phil and Kat's hen/stag do at the Vic, Freddie interrupted him.

Freddie angrily accused Billy of brushing him off, explaining: "I've been waiting my whole life [to meet you]."

Before Billy could explain, Keeble entered with a few cops to officially arrest him for the murder of her father, Malcolm Keeble, in January 1979.

Billy was hauled off by the cops, but Keeble stuck around long enough to flash a vengeful smile at Phil. Meanwhile, Freddie was horrified to see the man he believes to be his father arrested right in front of him.

Viewers know that Billy did have a part in raising Freddie as a boy, but Freddie's mum Little Mo Slater had him after being sexually assaulted by evil Graham Foster in 2003.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
