EastEnders likes to reference real-world events from time to time, with the nature of those events meaning that the scenes mentioning them have to be filmed last-minute.
That's what happened in yesterday's (August 1) episode, as the soap celebrated the Lionesses' historic Euro 2022 win at Wembley over the weekend.
In the newly-shot scene, Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) were enjoying a drink in the Queen Vic with landlady Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), where they toasted the team.

Even though she admitted to not normally being a sports fan, Kim was ecstatic that it finally "came home", stating: "Every single one of them is a role model, I'm telling you. If you can see it, you can be it!"
Linda said that she was so excited, she might whip out her sports bra herself – referencing Chloe Kelly's celebration after she scored what turned out to be the winning goal – while Rocky tried to spin a yarn about himself and John Barnes, but was quickly shushed.

EastEnders also recently paid tribute to Neighbours as it aired its final ever episode after 37 years on air. Instead of a scene that was slotted into an episode, a sketch was uploaded online that saw Linda fan-girl over Karl Kennedy after he walks into the café.
The video featured various cast members thanking everyone from Neighbours for everything they've done over the years, and wishing them all the best in the future.
EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One, with some episodes airing on BBC Two during summer sporting events. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
