EastEnders is set to re-air a milestone episode as part of BBC Four's Pride season.
The BBC has announced that it will be showing the January 24, 1989 EastEnders episode on BBC Four on Monday, August 23 at 8.30pm.
This episode featured a hallmark moment when Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman) had the first mouth-to-mouth gay kiss on British television with his boyfriend Guido (Nicholas Donovan).
Despite facing fear-mongering backlash from the tabloid press at the time, EastEnders refused to back down and now the moment is seen as a landmark in LGBTQ+ representation.

In the decades since this scene aired, EastEnders has continued to explore representation in Walford with an episode taking place during Pride and the opening of the Square's first gay bar, The Prince Albert.

Lord Michael Cashman was a part of many groundbreaking storylines on the soap as Colin during his three years as an EastEnders cast member.
Viewers watched his relationship evolve with Dot Cotton (June Brown), as she started by spreading false rumours he had HIV but would ultimately grow to understand him.
While Cashman left the soap in 1989, he would return nearly 30 years later for a two-episode storyline that saw Colin visiting Dot and convince her to attend his wedding.
Away from the screen, Lord Cashman has been a hugely influential campaigner for LGBTQ+ rights, and at one time served as the Labour Party's worldwide envoy on LGBTQ+ rights issues.
He also served as a member of the European Parliament for West Midlands and remains an honoured peer of the House of Lords.
EastEnders continues on BBC One.
