EastEnders spoilers follow.

Rukku Nahar has addressed her surprising departure from EastEnders.

Her final scenes as Habiba Ahmed aired in Thursday's (October 22) episode, following an on-screen exit for boyfriend Jags Panesar with a prison sentence for a crime he didn't commit.

Shortly after the scenes aired, Rukku posted on Instagram to commemorate her departure from the soap after nearly two years in EastEnders.

"BYE BYE HABIBA," she wrote. "Thank you @bbceastenders for welcoming me into one of the biggest soaps in the country! I've learnt so much in the last two years and I'm grateful to have made friendships for life ❤️ End of a chapter, onto the next one."

Rukku's post received plenty of well-wishes from current and former EastEnders co-stars, including Milly Zero (Dotty), Priya Davdra (Iqra), Emma Barton (Honey), Louisa Lytton (Ruby) and Bleu Landau (Dennis).

"Go fly beautiful girl," Milly encouraged her.

In Thursday's episode, Habiba had demanded her sister Iqra choose her over her girlfriend, Jags's sister Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha), because she knew the Panesars covered up the truth about Jags's arrest.

When Iqra refused to end her relationship with Ash, a distraught Habiba decided her only option was to get away from the Panesars. By the end of the episode, she'd packed up her bags and left the Square in a cab.

Is this the last we'll ever see of Habiba? Only time will tell.

EastEnders continues on Friday (October 23) at 8.05pm on BBC One.
