EastEnders Ben Mitchell and Callum Highway's emotional first kiss last year proved a big hit with fans when it aired.

However, it seems that filming Ballum's big moment came with a big obstacle for stars Max Bowden and Tony Clay… namely the latter's facial hair.

Appearing together on Secrets from the Square on July 13, a preview clip shows the pair re-watching the moonlit scene with host Stacey Dooley, who brings up Max's "beard rash".

"He's got very thick facial hair!" the Ben actor reveals. "We were at it for hours, freezing cold, and we were kissing for about three hours."

"After a while it just sort of became will this ever end? Was this just us now? Will we be in tomorrow morning?" Tony admits.

Stacey then asks if they were proud of the scene, Tony replying: "Massively. It's a huge moment, and I think what makes it lovely is the fact that it's two boys from broken homes who are just everyday lads etc. And they found each other. That's a beautiful thing."

The presenter also notes the positive fan and press reaction to Ballum's relationship, including fan pages devoted to the pair.

"[Tony] started most of them!" Max jokes, before adding: "We're very lucky it went down so well and that it still does."

EastEnders will be replaced by Stacey Dooley's new interview show Secrets from the Square and classic episodes from Albert Square's 35-year history starting next week.
