Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson has reflected on Angie and Den Watts' record-breaking episode.

The actress, who played the iconic character from 1985 to 1988, opened up about the episode — which famously saw Dirty Den (Leslie Grantham) serve Angie divorce papers — on this weekend's episode of Sunday Brunch.

"I think people miss Angie and Den," she said.

"It was kind of my breakthrough moment, in a way. I was in the business for about 13 years and suddenly that happened and everything took off. It was insane. I would never have met my husband if that hadn’t happened."

Speaking previously about her decision to leave EastEnders and Albert Square behind, Anita told The Lancaster & Morecambe Citizen:"I just felt when I left, things were changing within the soap as it had become.

"There are only so many ways you can play drunk before you start to go around again.

"Also once they separated Den and Angie, it kind of broke the chain in a way."

EastEnders airs Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
