Coronation Street has teased a new romance for Asha Alahan in a surprise date plot, with her friends encouraging her to approach someone from her past.

In scenes that will air next week, an intervention for Summer turns into Nina, Amy, and Summer trying to set Asha up with her former supervisor, Sienna.

The plot begins with Asha, Nina, and Amy calling at the bistro and finding Summer already tipsy. Summer says that she's going into town with some guys they met the day before, which raises red flags for the girls.

At the bistro, Amy, Asha and Nina tell Summer they're concerned for her well-being. In recent weeks, Summer has been adjusting to life outside of prison after being wrongfully jailed for Theo's murder, and has turned to drinking as a coping mechanism.

The conversation takes an unexpected turn when Sienna arrives at the bistro for a date. But when it becomes clear that Sienna's date has stood her up, Asha, Amy, and Summer urge Asha to step in.

"Summer's friends come together to help her through this difficult time, holding an intervention to make her see that she is acting dangerously," said our Corrie insider.

"However, the tone of the gathering soon shifts, as the girls later try to set Asha up with her old colleague Sienna! Could this be the start of a big new romance?"

Viewers know Sienna supervised Asha during her paramedic training. Asha quit last year after job stress, and a traumatic shift led to a suicide attempt in October, but she plans to resume her training soon.

Teasing a new Corrie romance recently, Asha star Tanisha Gorey told Digital Spy: "There's definitely something on the horizon, and it's really sweet. It's also a little bit sad, but we see Asha having to be supportive. I really hope the fans get behind the story and what's coming up!"

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
