ITV's 'soap power hour' is getting disrupted the first week of June as both Emmerdale and Coronation Street are off air. Fans who will be tuning in to ITV1 for their usual soapland fix on 5 June will be left empty-handed as the channel is airing a crucial game ahead of a major sports competition.

The ITV soaps will see their week cut short in early June as ITV1 will be airing the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier between Spain and England that night. This means the usual double slot occupied by Emmerdale at 8pm and Corrie at 8.30pm will be taken over by the match, a qualifier for the World Cup set to be disputed in Brazil between 24 June and 25 July 2027.

It hasn't been announced yet if ITV1 will be airing the two soap episodes at the weekend or in another time slot or if both soaps will simply skip a transmission day and resume as normal the following Monday.

Earlier this year, a surprise schedule shake-up was resolved with both soaps, which are normally on TV on weekdays, airing on a Sunday to make up for lost episodes, though it isn't clear whether this will be the case for the June episodes.

Meanwhile, both soaps are gearing up to air dramatic developments in two respective big storylines.
