Coronation Street spoilers follow.

There may have been comebacks aplenty to Weatherfield, but it doesn't look like Helen Flanagan will be returning to Coronation Street any time soon. Seven years after her last appearance as Rosie Webster, the actor has hinted that a return won't be forthcoming.

Flanagan first played the beloved character in 2000 as she took over the role from Emma Collinge, staying on the ITV soap for over a decade before departing in 2012. She returned five years later for a brief stint, before exiting again in June 2018.

With Catherine Tyldesley returning as Eva Price, there has been talk that Flanagan could also make a comeback, but the actor told The Sun that she won't be making a return any time soon - though not for the lack of wanting!

"I’d love to go back to Coronation Street, but they just haven’t asked me," she revealed. "I live around the corner… I’d love to [return], if they asked me. I’d come back, but they obviously haven’t."

Flanagan, who has also appeared on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Celebs Go Dating, teased back in May that she would be open to reprising her role as Rosie, adding that the soap 'needed' the character.

"I can't say too much, but it could be possible that I could go back," she said at the time. "I get on with everyone there. There's nothing personal going on. It changed my life so much and my loyalty is with them. I feel like Rosie's a part of me… They do need Rosie."

While Rosie may not be back in Weatherfield in the near future, one newcomer on the cobbled streets is Pauline McLynn's Maggie Driscoll, and the actor recently teased details of the soap's special episode which will focus on her character.

"When it comes to events, Maggie, we discover, is like anybody who's the head of the family, as she sees it. You put on your game face every day, you go out, and you do what you have to; you put on a performance," explained the actor.

"What we'll find out during the birthday is we get to know a little bit more of the personal Maggie, whether she likes it or not. It's actually very moving when you see what happens in the flashback because it shows the difficulty of being a young mother."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
