Coronation Street star Tanisha Gorey has confirmed what the future holds for Asha Alahan following her devastating new storyline, with the actor sharing that she has no plans to leave the soap.
It's been a tricky few months for Asha, with the character being at the centre of a special one-off episode last month. In it, the paramedic had a stressful time on the job, and was subjected to horrific racist abuse by Naomi.
Asha has since bumped into Naomi, with Bernie Winter doing her best to help her stepdaughter, but the paramedic has elected not to return to work due to the trauma that she faced.
This has all come after her brother Aadi decided to leave Weatherfield for India, though Gorey explained that the future of her character would be very different to that of her former co-star, Adam Hussain.

"Adam wanted to see the world and do other things, but for me, my brain has to finish something before starting something new," she told The Mirror. "I’m not ready to leave. I haven’t been through the mill like Gail Platt… There’s more I can do!"
Next week's scenes will see Asha's mental health spiral as she turns to alcohol and drugs, with the beloved character hospitalised after being found unconscious by Theo Silverton.
Bernie and Dev will anxiously wait at the hospital, with the paramedic later telling her father that she had intended to take her own life. Subsequent weeks will see Asha begin her recovery, though Gorey explained that the soap will carefully depict these themes.

"In hospital, [Asha] tells Dev that it all became too much and she took the booze and pills with the intention of killing herself," said the actor. "She tells him that she’s glad it didn’t work.
"But she’s not in the clear and when she comes home, we see her still suffering from depression. I think that’s important – to show it’s not always a quick fix. For people who are struggling, it shows it’s okay to ask for help again."
