Coronation Street has dealt another blow for Brody Michaelis after his family was torn apart.

Following a rough few months which saw both of their parents being imprisoned, things seemed to be settling down for Brody and his younger siblings Joanie and Shanice.

In today's episode, Tim told a shocked Sally that Brody previously tried to do a runner with the girls and Brody broke the news to Joanie and Shanice that their Mum had been sent to prison for four years.

Sally attempted to comfort the distraught girls, saying: "Me and Tim and your brother we're all going to look after you and you can ring your mum any time you want."

During their conversation, Tim answered the door to find the social worker standing there with a psychologist in tow.

As the pair told Tim and Sally they were happy for the family to stay together, they heard a scream from the garden. When Shanice appeared with a bloody gash on her leg, she told them that Joanie did it.

Tim and Sally did their best to play down Joanie’s behaviour, but as the social worker and psychologist headed out, they seemed unconvinced.

Later, the social worker returned to No.4, explaining that they were going to separate the girls as Joanie couldn't be trusted around Shanice.

"I'm afraid we're going to have to remove Joanie for the time being and place her with another family," the social worker told a heartbroken Brody.

In scenes that will air next week, Brody's family continues to fracture and Joanie is sent away to stay with her auntie for a while.

Speaking recently about his on-screen family being torn apart, Brody actor Ryan Mulvey said: "When he finds out they're being torn apart, it's like his heart being torn apart. He really struggles with that, and it definitely fuels a lot of the shenanigans that he gets up to next, because he loves them so much."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
