Coronation Street has revealed the identity of the person behind Eileen Grimshaw's latest scandal, which saw her accused of an insurance scam.

Eileen has been grieving the loss of her half-sister Julie Carp in recent weeks, though eyebrows were raised for some Weatherfield residents after it was revealed that Eileen would be the sole beneficiary of Julie's will.

Amid her grief, Eileen's relationship with George Shuttleworth has been deteriorating, with the couple left at a crossroads after she rejected his marriage proposal. To add to the drama, Eileen's son, Jason, returned to the cobbled streets after a nine-year absence.

Monday's (2 June) episode began with an enraged Eileen bemoaning a "slanderous" article in the Weatherfield Gazette, which alleged that she had enlisted the help of Todd and George to claim the insurance on Julie's life.

The theory was incorrect, however, as Theo Silverton – with the help of Steve McDonald – deduced that Noah Hedley was the one who had spoken to the newspaper. Steve quickly informed Eileen, though she was perplexed as to why he had chosen to lie.

Theo, who had a "history" with Noah, surmised that he could have targeted Eileen and her family to get back at him. Todd also acknowledged that his actions at the wake could have contributed to Noah's scheme.

Attention soon turned elsewhere, though, after Jason and Danielle – Theo's estranged wife– had gotten intimate upstairs following a flirty exchange at the Rovers, with the group left stunned by the developments.

After Eileen and George headed for a quiet drink at the Rovers, he shared his belief that they could "ride out the storm" for the time being. The pair then made progress in their struggling relationship as they stated their devotion to each other.

Eileen's head could soon be turned, however, with Jason offering her the chance to return to Thailand with him. Despite initially dismissing the idea, Eileen was in deep thought as she wondered if that particular grass could be greener…
