Coronation Street spoilers follow from Monday's episode (April 14), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street's Debbie Webster is quizzed by her brother Carl tonight after he discovers that she could have dementia.

Debbie is alarmed as she runs into trouble with her efforts to keep everyone in the dark about her recent appointments.

Monday's episode sees Debbie visit a memory clinic to undergo some initial tests. She was referred by a private doctor, who'd warned that she was possibly showing signs of young onset dementia.

After being booked in for an MRI scan, Debbie is determined to stay positive as she looks to the future.

Summoning her loved ones to the hotel, Debbie announces that life is for living and she intends to do just that – starting off with accepting Ronnie Bailey's recent marriage proposal. Ronnie is delighted as they officially become engaged.

Later, Carl stumbles across Debbie's neurologist letter.

Clearly unhappy with how she's handling the situation, he asks his sister: "I was just wondering when you were going to tell 'your amazing family' that you might have dementia?"

Can Debbie convince Carl to keep quiet around the rest of the family, or will he decide to tell everyone? Fans can see how the story unfolds when the episode airs tonight at 8pm on ITV1, or right now on ITVX.

Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie, recently explained why her character isn't currently leaning on her loved ones for support.

She said: "I can totally understand it. I think Debbie is in denial and wants to pretend everything is alright until it's not. She's a protector of her family, even though she doesn't have children. She doesn't want to worry them.

"It's like her world is being exploded. Also, people will treat you differently. She wants people to see her as the Debbie they know, the one who is in control and running a business. She doesn't want them to see her as someone else."

Corrie bosses have already confirmed that Debbie will eventually receive a formal diagnosis in upcoming episodes. Her journey living with dementia will then play out "over the coming months and years", leading to her eventual exit from the soap.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
