Coronation Street star Dame Maureen Lipman has shared an update on her wedding plans.

The actor, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the soap, recently announced her engagement, after spontaneously proposing to her partner David Turner.

Speaking to the Mirror, the couple explained that they're "in no hurry" to tie the knot, but that they have already started planning the event. "I haven't got a date or a venue but we're looking," said Dame Maureen.

She added: "The thing is, we are married, really. I still can't believe this is going to happen. We'll probably be engaged for about another five years – we'll get married in hospital."

Turner joked that their guests will be asked to contribute prescription medication. "The wedding list is going to be in John Bell & Croyden," he laughed.

Though they may not have every detail confirmed, it seems the couple's first wedding dance is already taken care of, with Strictly's Arlene Phillips choreographing the routine.

"I'm staging the choreography for the wedding dance," Phillips announced. "We'll create for you so you don't have to stomp – it will be different, no ordinary ball."

Joking about his dancing abilities, Turner replied: "You haven't got very good material."

Elsewhere, Dame Maureen recently spoke to Digital Spy about taking a step back from the cobbles, as she takes part in Richmond Theatre's production of Beauty and the Beast.

"Well the idea is that I don't get killed off, battered or thrown into Manchester Ship Canal," she said. "But I just step back – something happens to me and I go off, but always with the option that I can come back."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
