Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby finally comes clean over betraying the trust of her sister Toyah in Monday's episode (June 10).

Leanne makes a guilty confession as she confirms that she told Institute mentor Rowan Cunliffe about Toyah's traumatic past.

Last week, emotional scenes saw Toyah get arrested after the remains of a baby were found in a local park.

Toyah was wrongly accused of murder, forcing her to explain how she gave birth to a stillborn baby girl at the age of 19. The baby's father was Phil Simmonds, the man who raped her.

Toyah buried the baby in a park and kept quiet about her trauma for years afterwards. However, she recently took the brave step of confiding in Nick Tilsley and Leanne about what happened.

In Monday's episode, Toyah is sickened when she receives a delivery of yellow roses alongside a card that taunts her over her grief.

Toyah tells Nick that Rowan must have reported her to the police, as so few people know the significance of the yellow roses at the burial spot.

Finally losing patience over her sister's Institute obsession, Toyah shows Leanne the roses and the card.

Despite previously denying it, Leanne finally admits that she did tell Rowan about Toyah's past during one of their "uploading" sessions.

Leanne still refuses to believe that Rowan would have taken this knowledge any further, even though The Institute is locked in a bitter legal battle with Toyah.

Nick chooses a side, warning Leanne that she needs to cut all ties with Rowan and The Institute or their relationship is over. What will Leanne decide to do?

Speaking about the scenes, Georgia Taylor – who plays Toyah – explained: "She's spooked by the roses at first, then quite quickly she realises Rowan is behind it. She's incredibly insulted, furious and she feels like he's rubbing her nose in her own trauma.

"It just validates everything that she thought about the scumbag person that she thinks he is.

"She feels massively betrayed, because at first Leanne denies that she told Rowan, then even when it does come out and she knows she's lied, Leanne is still on the back foot and trying to deny it.

"Leanne won't accept that Rowan would do anything like that because she just thinks he's this perfect human. It feels like the ultimate betrayal because when Toyah's at her most vulnerable, when she's grieving the loss of a child, she still feels like her sister's not there for her."

Asked whether Toyah understands why Leanne has been sucked in by The Institute, Georgia replied: "Because Toyah was a counsellor, which she likes to remind people about a lot, you would think she would have a reasonable understanding of people and of human behaviour, but I suppose when it's someone very close to you, it's difficult to be so objective.

"The emotional side of her is just so frustrated – her sister is this really strong independent businesswoman, yet she's been reduced to this spoon-fed minion just following this guy around."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
