In an interview with Digital Spy and other media, Longchambon teased upcoming scenes for the characters, hinting that Dylan will be given a stern word by his father.

"It does affect Maria and Sean's friendship," she began. "Maria and Sean have always been all right with each other, apart from that period where she was with Marcus, Sean's boyfriend years ago. But since then they've had quite a good relationship.

"Obviously, this has a massive effect on their relationship because at the moment Sean is in complete denial that Dylan's in the wrong at all. But I think eventually he is going to learn the truth. And hopefully they'll be able to get back on track."

The star, who has played Maria since 2000, also spoke about her personal connection to the storyline, revealing her experience of being bullied throughout her school years.

"I was bullied throughout my childhood at different times. I was bullied a little bit in primary school, and then I was bullied at high school as well. So I can go off how it was for me," she began.

"It's important to talk to people [and] to not bottle things up. As much as people are scared of being a snitch, or that kind of stigma attached to that, the bigger picture is that you need to tell an adult, you need to tell your friends, you need to just keep talking."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
