Coronation Street's Teddy makes shock discovery about Stephen before accident

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

On today's (December 29) episode of Coronation Street, it looked like Stephen Reid's murder cover-up was being unravelled, but an accident saved him from being exposed.

Stephen accidentally killed Leo during a fight at the factory in September, and has thus far got away with it by making out that Leo moved to Canada.

In today's events, it seemed like Teddy could have been close to solving his son's disappearance before a tragic blow got in the way.

The episode begins with scam artist Stephen asking Jenny if she's seen Teddy. Jenny reveals that Teddy will be dropping by later to discuss what he has found out in Canada.

Teddy wrote in a text to Jenny that he'd discovered something of interest and wanted to tell her about it "face to face." Understandably, Stephen is terrified by what Teddy may have uncovered.

His day goes from bad to worse when Adam explains that Six Fellas has contacted him. But when he says they want to settle out of court, Stephen wonders if his luck is changing.

Later, Stephen manages to intercept a drunken Teddy as he heads to the Rovers to talk to Jenny. Teddy reveals that Leo never arrived in Canada, saying that "he never even boarded the plane."

He also reveals that with the help of a tech-savvy acquaintance, he knows that the texts 'Leo' sent came from Weatherfield.

Stephen urges Teddy not to share the news with Jenny, and the two mildly scuffle on the road. An enraged Teddy puts two and two together, exclaiming: "You know what happened to Leo, don't you? You've got something to do with this!"

However, just as realisation dawns on Teddy and he goes to cross the street, he's hit by a van.

The episode ends with Teddy lying motionless in the road.

Will he wake up to continue his investigations into his son's disappearance, or is this the opportunity Stephen needs to end the crisis for good?
