Coronation Street star Simon Gregson calls for past character to return

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has called for the return of Craig Charles' Lloyd Mullaney.

As regular Corrie viewers will recall from the many antics they got up to while running their cab company StreetCars together, Simon's character Steve McDonald and Lloyd were best friends, and a comedy duo at that.

But the bromance came to an end in 2015 when Lloyd left the cobbles to move to Jersey with his pregnant fianceé Andrea Beckett (Hayley Tamaddon).

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on ITV's Lorraine this morning, though, Simon said he would "love" for a Steve/Lloyd reunion when asked if there was any chance of the two "getting back together".

"We would love to get back together," he replied. "Me and Craig have been talking for many years about getting together and doing whatever.

"But it would be lovely to have Lloyd and Steve back [together]. They loved each other. They were very cute together. It was an amazing job then.

"Well, it still is! I'm not saying my job's horrible! It was just that little bit more fun with Craig. We were just getting paid to mess around every day. It was great."

The actor also had some advice for his Corrie co-star Sue Cleaver – who's set to enter the jungle on this year's run of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! – following his stint on the show last year.

He said: "The only advice I can give is just do it day by day, well more hour by hour really. Because you have no idea that a day could last that long when you're doing that show. It's an incredibly long day. Because we were in Wales, we were doing nights in a way.

"We were going to bed in the early hours of the morning and getting up afternoon time. The days are so long so it can be quite boring. What she needs to do is invent something to bide her time."
