Coronation Street's Roy Cropper faces upsetting Hayley setback

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Roy Cropper gets a reminder of his lost love Hayley in scenes to air on Coronation Street next week, as her iconic red anorak returns – but it is at the centre of quite a bit of drama.

The anorak problems unfold when Bernie starts looking for ways to get some more cash, and she asks Nina if she would be able to deep clean the flat.

Nina agrees and Bernie gets to work cleaning and sorting things out – finding a box of old clothes that she and Nina decide should be given to charity.

Unfortunately, the anorak is amongst the items and neither of them spots it when they hand the box over.

Roy realises that something is amiss when he is given a model train by Evelyn for his birthday – only it was his train to begin with, which makes Evelyn work out that she got it from the same charity shop that the anorak ended up in.

Determined to get it back, Evelyn heads straight to the shop and spots the anorak on Joy when she gets there. She snatches it back and returns it to Roy – but how will he react when he finds out that it was missing in the first place?

Julie Hesmondhalgh played the role of Hayley Cropper from 1998 to 2014, and she was the first transgender character in a British soap opera and the first permanent transgender character in serialised drama.

Her heartbreaking death had a huge impact on Roy and viewers have seen him still grappling with losing her to this day – with the anorak drama being the latest instance to give him pause to remember his time with her.

Hayley passed away in Roy's arms after drinking a lethal cocktail so that she could put an end to her suffering.

In recent times, Julie has been seen in Doctor Who and Broadchurch. She is also the narrator for The Weakest Link over on the BBC.
