Coronation Street's Stephen Reid could be taking a risk too far next week as his desperation for money escalates.

Stephen is facing a secret financial struggle and viewers have seen several tell-tale clues that he's trying to get his hands on a large sum of cash.

Earlier this week, Stephen suffered a setback when his mum Audrey Roberts cancelled her plans to put her money into a trust fund, which would have been overseen by him.

Audrey also confirmed that she wouldn't be including Stephen in her will, as he'd confidently assured her that he didn't need the money.

In a press release, the show said: "The return of Audrey Roberts' prodigal son Stephen came in the nick of time as her relationship with the rest of her family reached crisis point and resulted in a drunken Audrey being rescued from a nasty accident in the barbers.

"Furious with being treated like a child by Gail and her grandchildren, Audrey decides to put her finances in order with the help of businessman Stephen, much to the horror of the rest of the family.

"But as Audrey continues to struggle with the issues that growing older can bring, has she backed the wrong horse and is Stephen the knight in shining armour she believes?"
