Corrie's Debbie Webster faces huge financial threat

Debbie Webster is facing a financial threat in Coronation Street.

The financial strain has been caused by an accident at the hotel where Ed Bailey received a severe electrical shock while doing some work.

Ed landed in hospital over the injury and the Baileys made it clear they would pursue legal action unless Debbie made things right.

In Monday's episode (July 18), Debbie admitted to Ed's brother Ronnie Bailey that she's in serious trouble because Ray cancelled the hotel's indemnity insurance.

"They probably wouldn't have paid out, anyway," she admitted.

Still, Debbie turned up at the hospital with a cheque for the Baileys. They weren't impressed, with Aggie warning Debbie it would take a lot more cash to make this problem go away!

"We don't accept it," Aggie revealed as she handed back the money.

Aggie then encouraged Debbie to hire a lawyer, since they'd already instructed Adam Barlow to act on their behalf. Debbie and Ronnie were both horrified to see the situation spiralling out of control.

"[Adam] reckons we have a cast-iron case," Aggie boasted.

Debbie was determined to raise £30,000 to resolve the matter outside of the courtroom, yet she received some awful news when she met with her accountant.

Her accountant revealed Debbie was in much worse financial condition than she even realised — raising the £30K wasn't even a possibility. In fact, Debbie's accountant encouraged her to file for bankruptcy.

To make matters worse, Ronnie revealed to Debbie that he'd bought the derelict pub because Ed wants to get back to work. Now, the two are mortgaged well above their means!

Will Debbie be able to dig herself out of this financial hole?
