Coronation Street star Mikey North addresses unresolved Gary stories

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Mikey North has addressed his character Gary Windass remaining unpunished for two major crimes.

Gary's sabotage of the Underworld roof led to the death of Rana Habeeb in 2019 and he also killed Rick Neelan in self-defence later that year.

In June this year, Rana's brother Imran died without ever discovering that Gary was responsible for his sister's tragic fate.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other press about the rarely-mentioned Rana storyline, Mikey explained: "We had some scenes where Gary came face-to-face with Imran's mum. I guess that's to show the audience that Gary does still carry guilt about it.

"That was to try and make money, to do the right thing – to pay back Rick of all people, I think! Rana sadly perished because of what he did. I guess now that Imran's out the way, there's less people sniffing around that side of things.

"I say Gary has got nine lives, like a cat. I'm sure his luck will run out eventually."

Back in March, there was another fortunate turn of events for Gary when Rick's ex-wife Laura decided to take the blame for his murder.

Laura, who was terminally ill, let Gary off the hook because she needed someone to be there for her daughter Kelly once she'd passed away.

On the possibility of Kelly ever discovering who really killed her father, Mikey said: "I have absolutely no idea what would happen. It'll be huge whenever that happens.

"I guess that's what we're building towards – how their relationship will develop over time. I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll transpire with those two. And as they grow closer, it'll be even more explosive."
