Coronation Street has revealed tension ahead for Nick Tilsley, Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald after Oliver is rushed back to hospital.

Upcoming episodes see Oliver get taken into intensive care as his seizures start to become more frequent and severe.

Early next week, Oliver's loved ones are told that his condition may be more serious than first thought.

Doctors suggest that he might have mitochondrial disease, but his family will have to wait longer for a firm diagnosis.

What to Read Next

New spoilers on Coronation Street's official website have revealed that Nick, Leanne and Steve will deal with the news very differently as they await further news.

As they all keep a vigil by Oliver's bedside at the hospital, Leanne and Steve try to keep the mood light-hearted by jokily reminiscing over their son's early childhood.

Nick is shocked that they can be so jovial at such a difficult time and doesn't hold back from voicing his feelings. Can Oliver's loved ones get on the same page?

At the weekend, Corrie announced that Oliver's diagnosis of mitochondrial disease will eventually be confirmed. It is a life-limiting condition for which there is currently no cure.

Show producer Iain MacLeod said: "When Steve and Leanne learn that their son has a life-limiting condition, we explore how that impacts on their relationships with their other loved ones.

"Obviously Steve and Leanne are not currently a couple, but this story will draw them closer and closer together – to the point where they are bonded more tightly than they've ever been.

"The difficulty then for Nick, Tracy and other people is that they start to feel slightly shut out from that little triangle of Steve, Leanne and Oliver.

"It makes you the worst person in the world if you express that, so the difficulties for Tracy and Nick are to try and find the best way through for the person they love – while simultaneously feeling left out in the cold slightly."

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
