Coronation Street has officially confirmed Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown's quadruplets storyline for the first time.

The former couple receive life-changing news next week as they discover that pregnant Gemma is expecting four babies rather than just one.

Gemma's (Dolly-Rose Campbell) new drama kicks off when she starts experiencing terrible morning sickness. Although Chesney and Rita Tanner both urge her to see a doctor, Gemma stubbornly refuses and insists she'll be fine.

When the situation becomes so bad that Gemma collapses, Chesney rushes her off to hospital and she has a scan.

Predicting a possible twist to the tale, Gemma reminds Chesney that she has a family history of twins. However, the doctor explains that there's more than just two babies to worry about – they're expecting quads.

Afterwards, Gemma and Chesney are given lots of information on multiple births, including the option of selective termination.

Back home, Gemma shares the big news with Rita. Although Rita is delighted for her friend, she also points out that her flat is too small and she's too old to be living with four young children.

With Gemma under pressure to find somewhere else to live, Chesney suggests that she should move back in with him. Although she's not keen, will Gemma be forced to accept that she doesn't have many other options?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, June 5 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
