Tonight's double bill of Coronation Street (February 22) saw Roy Cropper hand himself into the police after discovering that he accidentally started the fire on Peter Barlow's boat.

Viewers know that Carla Connor, after discovering that Roy caused the fire by sleepwalking on the boat, had attempted to protect him by covering up the incident. She deleted the CCTV footage and disposed of the clothes Roy was wearing at the time.

But tonight's scenes saw Roy perplexed as he noticed not just his slippers were missing, but also his shirt, trousers and anorak.

After Kirk discovered Roy's anorak in the recycling bin at work, Roy was bemused as he noticed it smelt of paraffin oil. Roy then went to the factory where he found the rest of his clothes.

Roy demanded answers from Carla who decided there was no point keeping up the secret. After she revealed that he started the fire, Roy was horrified as he realised he'd endangered Simon's life.

Carla and Roy both went to Peter to tell him the truth. Peter said he wouldn't go to the police, but Roy took himself to the station and made a statement.
