Casualty boss Jon Sen has teased the show's return storylines which will also mark his final episodes as producer.

Fans of the medical drama will know that the popular BBC One show has been off air since Saturday, September 16, after it coincided with the launch of this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

While no official date has been set for its return, show bosses promised that the soap will be back "later this year" following its autumn break.

Announcing his exit from the show earlier this month, Casualty producer Jon Sen said he would be stepping down from his role at the end of the year.

Speaking to Radio Times about his final run, Sen said: "So my final episodes will go out in 2024 and we come back on towards the end of the year with a really exciting storyline, which involves Stevie grappling with the PTSD she feels from her upbringing and that dovetails perfectly with an ongoing issue with the hospital.

"So it's a really exciting story that we're telling over the next, kind of, three months and that comes back towards the end of the year," he added.

Describing Harman's relationship with his on-screen daughter Jodie, played by Anna Chell, Sen said he has "loved watching that father-daughter relationship" while teasing further "explosive" storylines for Harman.

When asked about Max and Jodie's future, Sen said: "All I can say about that is that it's worth tuning in for because the excitement of that father-daughter relationship really comes to a head, and we're really excited about what the audience is going to think about him and his exit and his final story, and that all sits as part of that new chapter in the show."

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
