Coronation Street actress Faye Brooks and singer Gareth Gates have confirmed that they are engaged.
Gareth got down on one knee while the couple were staying at his friend's apartment in New York recently, after he'd played Faye a self-penned 17-minute song.
Faye, who plays Kate Connor in the ITV soap, admitted to OK! magazine that she struggled to control her emotions during the romantic moment.
"We were both crying the whole way through," she said. "Once it was finished, Gareth got down on one knee and said: 'Will you spend the rest of your life with me?' And of course I said yes straight away."
Gareth admitted that he had got "a bit carried away" with the length of the song he'd written, but said it was very special to both of them.
"It was all about the six years we’ve spent together and I incorporated bits of songs that mean a lot to us as a couple," he said.

The pair did briefly split for a couple of months in 2018 but Gareth has revealed that the break was the best thing for them, saying that they are stronger as a result.
"There was a lot of strain on our relationship because I was always away with work and Faye’s schedule was getting even busier so we decided we needed some breathing space," he explained.
A storyline involving Faye's Corrie character Kate was recently cleared by Ofcom, after viewers complained about lesbian Kate cheating on her fiancée Rana Nazir by seducing Adam Barlow in an attempt to have a baby.
Ofcom told Digital Spy: "The episode focused on two characters wanting different things from their relationship but, in our view, didn’t refer to their sexual orientation in a derogatory manner."
