Practical Magic 2 has just released an extended look at the Owens sisters as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles from the 1998 witchy rom-com classic via a new trailer. Directed by Susanne Bier, the highly anticipated sequel was first announced in 2024 as the follow-up to 1998's Practical Magic, an adaptation of the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman.
The new movie takes place 25 years after the events of the first film. Now, Sally (Bullock) and Gillian (Kidman) face a new challenge when Sally's daughters, played by Bullet Train's Joey King and Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams, discover the family's supernatural powers and love curse.
The brand new trailer zeroes in on the conflict between Sally and her eldest Kylie (King), as her daughter realises that any man an Owens woman falls in love with is destined to a tragic death.

After her boyfriend has a biking accident, Kylie is devastated as Sally can no longer hide the truth from her.
"It's true. We're witches, and the curse is real," Sally admits as Kylie vows: "I will never trust you again."

Kylie then embarks on a mission to "fix" the curse, with Sally and Gillian following her to London as their two aunts, Jet (Dianne Wiest) and Frances (Stockard Channing), advise them to go see "scholar of the craft", Ian Wright (Lee Pace).
As sparks fly between Sally, who's sworn off love, and newcomer Ian, it's the sisterly bond between Sally and Gillian, and that between Kylie and her younger sister Antonia (Williams), that proves indestructible once again.

Fans have been reacting to the emotional trailer that hit the web earlier today and culminates in Lana del Rey's rendition of 'Season of the Witch'. One person wrote on Instagram: "Why am I already crying?!? I cannot WAIT to see this."
Another commented that they were "laughing and crying already", while another viewer admitted they were not "emotionally ready" for the upcoming sequel.
"Can't wait for this masterpiece," another comment read, as a fan said their "book coven" would reread Hoffman's books "to be ready for midnight margaritas and curses!"
Meanwhile, other fans noticed that Aidan Quinn, who played Sally's love interest Gary Hallet in the first film, is absent from the sequel. As Quinn previously confirmed he hadn't been asked to return, Bullock also teased at this year's CinemaCon: "If you know the original film, you can probably guess why." Time for a re-watch.
Practical Magic 2 is released in cinemas on 11 September.
