Michael Mann's long-gestating Enzo Ferrari biopic is in the final development stage.

Ferrari, which Mann has been attached to since 2011, is due to begin shooting next year.

The filmmaker has merged two scripts - The Italian Job by Troy Kennedy Martin and Out of Africa by David Rayfield - for the film, Variety reports.

Both scripts are based on Brock Yates's 1991 book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races.

Mann is developing the biopic with Los Angeles-based production company Cecchi Gori Media.

He recently directed Blackhat, which starred Chris Hemsworth. Watch Michael Mann discuss the film with Digital Spy below:
