Tobey Maguire stopped swinging from skyscrapers years ago, but he's now given his blessing to the latest Spider-Man.

The actor described Tom Holland's debut as the web slinger in Captain America: Civil War as "great" in an Instagram spoof mash-up video, which combines the latest Marvel film with Maguire's own turn as Spider-Man.

Maguire wrote: "Haha seriously, who made this? [Tom Holland] good job! You are great as Spider-Man. Keep it up!"

The 40-year-old starred as the Marvel superhero in the three original Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, before being replaced by Andrew Garfield for 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel.

Holland is the latest actor to play Peter Parker, and is due to get his own standalone film in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The new movie is tipped to be a non-origin coming-of-age story set in high school, with Zendaya cast as a non-love interest.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into cinemas July 7, 2017.
