While their bond off the screen has been going strong for several years, Spider-Man stars Tom Holland and Zendaya are also very much attuned to each other when it comes to filming.

The pair are reprising their respective roles of Peter Parker and MJ in Brand New Day, the fourth instalment in Marvel's superhero series, with the latest adventure set to hit the big screen next month.

While plot details are pretty scarce, Holland has paid tribute to his co-star (and wife, if you believe the rumours), with the actor crediting Zendaya for helping to create a moment in the upcoming scene.

Speaking on podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Holland recalled: "We had an amazing moment on [the set of] Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It's only because of our relationship that this happened."

He explained that the pair were filming a scene, but agreed that it wasn't "working at all". The actor noted that he spoke with director Destin Daniel Cretton, who he described as a "calm" presence on set.

After Holland explained his and Zendaya's grievance with the scene, the lead star recalled that Cretton told everybody to "go home" as they planned to rewrite the scene before shooting it again.

"We came in the next day, we reshot the scene and I'm so glad that we did because it sings," said Holland, who also called Zendaya "fearless" and the "best actor in the world" following her performances in Euphoria and The Drama.

Noting the "wild world" of the film industry, Holland added: "It's so nice to have someone that understands that in such a personal way. so that you can talk each other down or big each other up. It's a lifeline. I couldn't imagine doing what I do without her."

While it remains to be seen how Brand New Day pans out, Holland is already looking to the future with his character, and recently stated his intention to be involved with the creative process when it comes to passing the proverbial baton to another actor.

"For whoever's next, whether that is Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen [or] Spider-Woman… I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter," he said. "If I could do what [Robert Downey Jr] did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in cinemas on 31 July.
