Olivia Colman's new romance movie Wicker has confirmed a UK release date for later this year. Co-starring Alexander Skarsgård, the story follows an "ostracized fisherwoman" who "commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker".

However, her new wicker husband (Skarsgård) "proves more spectacular than she ever imagined" as "his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life".

Also featuring Peter Dinklage, Wicker has now been confirmed to hit UK and Irish cinemas on 30 October.

The movie is adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones's short story 'The Wicker Husband', and comes from directors and writers Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson.

Following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the film attracted a positive reception, sitting at an impressive 91% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 22 reviews.

What to Read Next

Our Digital Spy review called Wicker a "must-see" and "one of the weirdest movies" Colman has ever made, adding: "The movie [...] ends up being a raunchy, off-kilter delight, though what's equally surprising is that it still maintains the author's fairytale musings."

The Film Stage labelled it an "audacious, captivating film about an outcast woman, her wood-woven husband, and the village that collapses over their love".

"Bold, strange, romantic, and deeply human, the film is elevated by a wonderful script, gorgeous costumes, and an ensemble cast that fully commits to the heightened reality of the story," wrote Hey U Guys.

The movie's "very fun premise" was further praised by FandomWire, who suggested that "what elevates the film from a novelty into something genuinely brilliant is the level of sincerity and emotion it brings to its silly, tongue-in-cheek storytelling".

Wicker will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 30 October.
