The first reactions for Supergirl are in - and it's looking good so far. Milly Alcock made her first appearance as Kara Zor-El at the end of 2025's Superman, and in June, the House of the Dragon star will be front and center of a standalone film.

The first trailer released last year showed Zor-El embarking on her 23rd birthday celebration across the galaxy to the tune of Blondie's 'Call Me'. However, she finds herself teaming up with Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley) after encountering a tragedy that puts her on a "murderous quest for revenge".

Alongside Alcock, the film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Corenswet as Kal-El/Superman, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze.

Supergirl won't be released in UK cinemas until 25 June, with US audiences not seeing it until 26 June. But a few first reactions have been revealed, with one X account, Geeks of Color, branding it "the best blockbuster of the summer!"

"Terrific action but what sells it is the heart and the characters. Milly Alcock is a force to be reckoned with! Eve Ridley is also incredible & Jason Momoa is pitch perfect as Lobo. One of the best DC films!" they wrote.

Meanwhile, another said on X: "#Supergirl isn't a classic but it's pacey fun and hits most of the targets it aims for. Milly Alcock is great as the titular heroine and Momoa's Lobo is a blast. Other big wins are the action, humor and when it leans into physical production."

A third person called it "a straightforward, poignant story with lots of emotion", while a fourth said it was "highly enjoyable" and "incredibly emotional, which makes the action hit even harder".

However, some weren't too impressed, as someone said that it was a "mixed bag", adding: "While Jason Momoa’s Lobo & Milly Alcock shine, some adaptation choices and a bland villain keep it from greatness. It's, simply put, just fine."

Even before its release, Supergirl has already a first in the DCU as having one of the shortest runtimes, coming in at roughly 108 minutes, making it 21 minutes shorter than last year's Superman (via IFCO).

Prior to Supergirl, the shortest DCU film was 2020's Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), starring Margot Robbie, which ran for 109 minutes.

Supergirl is released in UK cinemas on 25 June, and in US cinemas on 26 June.
