Ready or Not's Samara Weaving and Strange Darling's Kyle Gallner star in a rom-crime thriller that's just confirmed a UK release date. Premiering at Toronto International Film Festival last year, Carolina Caroline follows a Bonnie and Clyde-style romance between the two leads as they commit a streak of crimes.

Directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier, who previously worked with Gallner on Sundance darling Dinner in America, the movie follows the titular Caroline (Weaving), who wants to break free from the small-town life she's forced to live as she cares for her father, played by The White Lotus' Jon Gries. Enter smooth drifter Oliver (Gallner), who charms her and teaches her his criminal ways.

The student surpasses the teacher, with Caroline increasingly enjoying the thrills of a life of crime, ignoring the trouble on the horizon.

The film boasts a perfect critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, where its impressive 100% rating comes from 21 reviews. RogerEbert.com hailed the movie, penned by William Thomas Dean IV, as a "romantic crime thriller whose unique blend of sexiness and tragedy sizzles off the screen".

The chemistry between Weaving and Gallner is off the charts and helps sell the film, with "a great assist from Kyra Sedgwick in a hold-on-to-your-socks cameo" (via San Jose Mercury News).

"Another dependably heartfelt addition to Rehmeier's impressive survey of Americana, Carolina Caroline is a cross-country Bonnie and Clyde riff that leverages the chemistry of its stars and a breezy screenplay," Asynchronous Media argued, while Shade Studios called the film " a fun and sexy joyride".

But there's more to this criminal romance than it initially meets the eye, as Caroline and Oliver's "shared heartbreak and grief" when reality dawns on them "draws serious blood", according to IndieWire.

Carolina Caroline is released on Sky Cinema and NOW on 20 June.
