Wicked: For Good might have been snubbed by the Oscars, but still took more than $500 million worldwide and combined with the first movie, the adaptation grossed a huge $1.3 billion globally. It's no surprise that Universal has already been talking about doing another movie to expand the world.

However, lead star Cynthia Erivo isn't quite so sure that we'll be heading back to Oz any time soon. "It's too soon to even begin to have the conversation about it. It would take a lot to get me back to do it. It has to make sense," she told Variety.

The Wicked movies catapulted Erivo into the spotlight after excellent roles in the likes of Harriet, Bad Times at the El Royale and Drift. She's been keeping busy since too with upcoming movies including Prima Facie – an adaptation of the award-winning Jodie Comer play – and The Road Home.

Not to mention she's been playing 23 characters in her one-woman adaptation of Dracula on the West End, which ends this weekend. It's no surprise that Erivo hasn't had much chance to reflect on Wicked: For Good and everything that it entailed.

"I haven't had that much distance. And I guess I've not necessarily looked back that much at it, because distance does make the heart grow fonder, you know?," she added to Variety.

What to Read Next

There is one aspect of Wicked: For Good that Erivo does remember fondly, the debate over Elphaba's so-called "sex cardigan" in a scene between Elphaba and Jonathan Bailey's Fiyero, before he becomes the Scarecrow.

"He and I had talked about it often, that the two of us could play these characters and be ostensibly two straight characters who are played by two queer people without any issue, and actually still be able to tell the story of love and closeness. There's something really special about that," she reflected.

Following the Oscars snub for Erivo, her co-star Ariana Grande said that her work remained "undeniable", even if it didn't get the recognition that many fans thought it deserved across the two movies.

"Cynthia's performance is the most truthful, vulnerable and fierce Elphaba we've seen, and it will be referenced and adored for generations. That can't be taken away," she praised.
