Wicked: For Good spoilers follow.

Wicked and Wicked: For Good makeup designer Frances Hannon has explained why Jonathan Bailey's eyes have changed again over the course of the two films, the second of which is finally in cinemas.

The naturally brown-eyed actor wore blue contacts for the role of Fiyero, which the actor himself described as a "Winkie blue" last year.

He teased that "the reason why we did that will become clear in the second film" and it seemed like the implication was that he'd keep the colour after being transformed into the Scarecrow as an indicator that it's still him.

However, the film showed Fiyero's eyes changing to Bailey's natural brown colour during his transformation.

Speaking to Variety, Hannon explained the reason for going from blue to brown.

"He had blue contact lenses," she said. "When he goes to Scarecrow, we went back to Jonathan's own color eyes, which are really deep, dark brown, to bring back the earthy quality."

Hannon went into further detail about the other details in Fiyero/Scarecrow's look, stating: "We didn't go for that big baggy look over the head with the big rope around his neck.

"What Paul Tazewell did was brilliant. He went for the straw coming out of the areas of the seams and everything in his uniform. Mark [Coulier, prosthetic makeup designer] had made a burlap collar so that where the buttons on the shirt [are] were all busting open.

"I used blonde in Fiyero's hair as a very strong point to carry through that change. The blonde in his own hair in film one and the opening of film two, then develops into the straw quality from the field.

"The wig was made from heads of wheat and sewn in, but with very little hair in it. Then you had that cute little cap that Paul designed from bark on the top."

Wicked: For Good is out in cinemas now.
