With seven BRITs and two Ivor Novello awards under her belt already, Raye has taken the music industry by storm over the past few years. Now, she is set to take a new path in her career, as she lands her first film role.

As per Variety, the singer-songwriter will star alongside Academy Award-nominee Isabelle Huppert in Lineage, the latest feature film from acclaimed French director Yann Demange (Top Boy).

Billed as a "high-profile crime drama", the story is said to take place in "contemporary multicultural" London, and centres on Tariq following his release from prison. With his newfound sense of freedom, he attempts to rebuild his relationship with his son, Amine.

"Lineage is a homecoming for me in many ways. [It has] characters I know very well at the centre of the story, including a formidable crime boss matriarch," said Demange, who called it a "love love letter to the London I grew up in and love".

"It's important to me that the film both honours and delivers on the crime genre in an exciting and fresh way, whilst simultaneously exploring the complications of family and the possibility of transcending one's beginnings," he added.

"Lineage is bold, filmmaker-driven cinema with true artistic ambition and global commercial appeal," said producer Thomas Benski, who dubbed Demange a "singular cinematic voice and one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation".
