Sebastian Stan will be back as Bucky Barnes in Avengers: Doomsday later this year, but even Steve Rogers might struggle to recognise him in his new family drama Fjord, which has just released a first-look image.
Written and directed by Cristian Mungiu in his English-language debut, Fjord has been confirmed to receive its world premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Neon will release the movie in the US and UK, among others, but a release date isn't yet set (via Variety).
To mark its upcoming world premiere, which will take place at the festival between 12 and 23 May, Neon has released a first-look still from the drama which reveals Stan's dramatic transformation for the new role. Check it out below:

Fjord sees Stan reunite with A Different Man co-star Renate Reinsve as they star as Mihai and Lisbet Gheorghiu, a devout couple who move from Romania to Norway with their children to be closer to Lisbet's family.
They quickly bond with their neighbours and their children become close friends. However, when Mihai and Lisbet's daughter Elia shows up at school with some bruises on her body, her parents come under scrutiny in the local community and they must confront their different views on family, freedom and progress.

Talking to The Film Stage last year, Mungiu revealed that we'll see a different side to Stan in Fjord as the actor will partly speak Romanian. Stan was born in the Romanian city of Constanța, before moving to New York with his mother when he was 12 years old.
"I was not working within the star system before now, but I was happy to work with these people without having to change my way of making cinema," Mungiu explained. "We got along quite well and I'm happy that I started with Sebastian, because he speaks some Romanian and he wished to speak Romanian in the film."

Unless Fjord is released this year, the next time most of us will see Stan on the big screen is in Avengers: Doomsday. There are fears from MCU fans that Bucky will be killed-off in the much-anticipated movie, especially as he's set to take on a major DC role in The Batman: Part II as Harvey Dent.
We can only hope that it proves to just be a theory as we're not sure we're ready to say goodbye to Bucky just yet.
Fjord does not yet have a release date.
