If you're missing Tom Hiddleston after The Night Manager wrapped up its second series, then Channel 4 have got just the movie for you to watch this evening – and it's certainly one of the most eye-catching of his career to date.

Released in 2016, High-Rise is an adaptation of JG Ballard's novel of the same name with Hiddleston starring in the lead role of Dr Robert Laing who, in 1975, has just moved into his new apartment in a luxury tower block. Laing wants anonymity, but soon finds that his new neighbours have no intention of leaving him alone.

As Laing attempts to find his position in the social dynamics of his new home, his good manners and sanity start to disintegrate along with the building. Not that the residents are aware as they continue on partying all day and all night.

High-Rise might not be for everybody – as Digital Spy mentioned in its review, it does open with Laing eating "a dog's leg like it's a KFC chicken wing" – but if you fancy checking it out, High-Rise is now available to watch for free on Channel 4's streaming service.

You'll have to be quick though as High-Rise is only available to watch on the streamer for the next six days.

What to Read Next

Directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Amy Jump, High-Rise also features a stacked cast that includes Keeley Hawes, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy and Reece Shearsmith.

It might have divided critics upon its release in 2016, with the movie standing at 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, but Digital Spy were among its fans. "Director Ben Wheatley has done an outstanding job of bringing JG Ballard's novel to life. High-Rise is an almost-perfect fusion of his work," we wrote.

"High-Rise switches genres effortlessly until it becomes its own singular, horrifying, immensely captivating thing," noted Globe and Mail, while The Independent hailed it as "visionary film-making, wildly ambitious, very caustic and hitting the bull's eye of almost every target in its sights".

While The Night Manager might have ended over the weekend, Hiddleston confirmed that Jonathan Pine will be back for a third series, which was always planned with series two and three being a "12-episode story".

He'll also be back on the big screen this December as Loki in the eagerly-awaited Avengers: Doomsday.

High-Rise is available to watch now on Channel 4's streaming service.
