A first glimpse of Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman in their new thriller has been unveiled, as it's confirmed that it will form part of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. The Gallerist, which is directed by Cathy Yan, is an official selection for the prestigious Park City, Utah event and slated for late January.

The thriller is described as "wickedly fun" in the official Sundance synopsis, which promises "terrific performances by a stellar cast".

It reads: "Preparing for her Art Basel premiere, gallerist Polina Polinski (Natalie Portman) hosts an early look for art influencer Dalton Hardberry (Zach Galifianakis) to review emerging artist Stella Burgess (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).

"Dalton’s unimpressed with the gallery until he sees one piece that captures his attention and revs up the ruthless machine of the art world."

Charli XCX, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sterling K. Brown and Daniel Brühl also star in the movie, with a first picture of Portman and Ortega in action having now been released.

Portman previously told Collider of the project: "Cathy Yan's an incredible director. I loved working with her. We had the most insane cast... Just an embarrassment of riches.

"We had such a fun time. It's a very funny art-world satire, I would say."

The Gallerist is one of three Charli xcx-starring films that will premiere at Sundance - also on the line-up is The Moment, a "rockumentary" in which she plays a version of herself.

She'll also be seen in I Want Your Sex, an erotic thriller starring Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde.

Portman, meanwhile, will soon be seen away from Sundance in Good Sex, a romantic comedy from Lena Dunham that's due out on Netflix in 2027.

In it, she'll star a couples therapist who returns to the New York dating scene after a decade in failed relationships. Mark Ruffalo, Rashida Jones and rom-com royalty Meg Ryan also star.

As for Wednesday star Ortega, she recently wrapped filming for JJ Abrams' fantasy movie Ghostwriter, alongside Glen Powell, Emma Mackey and Samuel L. Jackson.

She's also set to play the title role in Klara and the Sun, a dystopian sci-fi from Taika Waititi co-starring Amy Adams and Natasha Lyonne.

The Gallerist will premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, which will be held from 22 January to 1 February 2026. A theatrical release date is yet to be announced.
