Angelina Jolie has landed her next lead movie role alongside Charlie Plummer in an "impressive" dark survival thriller. Directed by Yellowjackets' Eva Sørhaug, Sunny will star Jolie as a gangster who becomes the target of an abusive drug kingpin.
According to Deadline, the character is forced to take extreme measures in a bid to protect both herself and her sons from the dangerous villain. But as the walls begin to close in, will she and her children be able to escape to safety?
Or will her risky lifestyle finally catch up to her, with disastrous consequences for everyone?
The movie has reportedly already commenced production, with Sørhaug at the helm. As well as directing and executive producing, Sørhaug developed the story, which was then written by William Day Frank.
Meanwhile, lead actor Jolie is producing the project alongside Gramercy Park Media's Nathan Klingher, Nickel City Pictures' Mark Fasano and A Higher Standard's Jeffrey Greenstein, in association with Choice Films.

Klingher added: "Angelina has made this role uniquely her own. Strong, character-driven thrillers like this are rare, and the attention to detail that she and Eva have brought to the film is impressive to watch."
Elsewhere, Jolie recently starred in the psychological drama Maria which saw her portraying famous opera singer Maria Callas. Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the critically-acclaimed biopic explored the extraordinary life and career of the soprano before her death in 1977.
Maria was released in 2024 and is currently available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
