The Talented Mr Ripley, the "gorgeously unsettling" crime thriller starring Jude Law and Matt Damon, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. Boasting a stacked cast and based on a classic novel, this is one you won't want to miss!

The 1999 film, which is based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel of the same name, sees Damon portray Tom Ripley, a con artist who travels to Italy to bring Dickie Greenleaf (Law) back home to New York City.

The mission proves trickier than first expected, however, with Dickie's lively spirit keeping him away from home. Tom soon becomes addicted to Dickie's lifestyle, and questions if bringing him back is the best idea.

Written and directed by Anthony Minghella, the film boasts a stacked cast including Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jack Davenport and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and is now available to stream in the UK on Prime Video.

If you need any more convincing to watch the period crime thriller, then look no further than critical acclaim it garnered. The film received five nominations - including one for Law's performance - at the 72nd Academy Awards.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Talented Mr Ripley boasts an approval rating of 85% from 139 reviews, with Vulture writing: "It's a gorgeously unsettling film. You can hide in the shadows, but luminescence exposes who you are, and the only escape is into another identity."

"A decidedly dark and demented sort of polished gem, all spectacular surfaces masking a fundamentally rotten core," opined The Daily Beast, while the Associated Press praised its "eclectic score, grand performances and engrossing moments of suspense".

Over on IMDb, the film has a solid average rating of 7.4 out of 10 from over 266,000 logs, with one user calling it "one of the best intellectual thrillers" as they praised Damon and Law's performances.

"One of the last great movies of the 20th century, Yes I was so surprised to see it so low I really expected it to be 8.3 or something like that," wrote another user, while a third called it "splendid".

The film isn't the only adaptation of Highsmith's classic novel, with Ripley, a television series from Netflix, being released last year. Andrew Scott assumed the central role with a supporting cast that included Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn.

The Talented Mr Ripley is streaming on Prime Video.
