Not to be confused with Ben Leonberg's recent dog-focused supernatural movie (or Viljar Bøe's warped horror thriller from 2022), a new Good Boy has entered the ring, and it has landed a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Starring Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough, Jan Komasa's latest film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month.
It focuses on 19-year-old Tommy (Anson Boon), who is kidnapped and imprisoned by a married couple, played by Graham and Riseborough.
The film has already gone down a storm with critics ahead of its release, debuting with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 15 reviews.
This is what critics have said about the upcoming film...
Digital Spy
"There might be no such fears here about whether the dog is going to die, but Good Boy will still have you utterly gripped as its weird tale plays out... Anchored by terrific performances from British acting royalty Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough, with a strong break-out turn from MobLand's Anson Boon, Good Boy is unlike any thriller you've seen this year."
Guardian
"There is something very theatrical about Good Boy -- I can imagine this on the London West End stage. Perhaps it would be much less with a lesser cast: Graham and Riseborough execute the bland nastiness expertly."
What to Read Next
London Evening Standard
"It’s a sick premise that only gets sicker, but sometimes sickness in the cure. Good Boy is tonally unique."
Collider
"Good Boy keeps its cards firmly close to its chest for the majority of the movie, only for the finale to reveal that they kept them hidden because it never had a particularly strong hand."
Screen International
"There’s something deeply compelling about this deliberately odd, carefully calibrated neo-gothic fable, which suggests that rehabilitation can be found in the darkest of places, and that true freedom is simply a matter of trust."
The Wrap
"Good Boy is doggone exceptional when it comes to the powerhouse acting abilities of Graham and Boon, both of whom take on their roles to showcase opposite ends of the rehabilitation spectrum."

The synopsis for the film teases: "19-year-old hooligan Tommy revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure.
"Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris, his near-spectral wife Kathryn, and their young son Jonathan.
"The family sets out to reform Tommy's unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost."
Good Boy does not have a UK release date yet, but is expected to launch in early 2026.
