Alexander Skarsgård's Viking epic The Northman has arrived on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.

Directed by Robert Eggers, the film is based on the story of Amleth, which inspired William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The plot follows a young prince who witnesses the murder of his father King Aurvandill War-Raven (Ethan Hawke) by his uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang).

With his mother Queen Gudrún (Nicole Kidman) in the hands of an uncle-turned-enemy, Amleth flees his country as he promises to return to seek his revenge.

Originally released in 2022, the film has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (from 385 reviews), with the Critics Consensus calling it "a bloody revenge epic and breathtaking visual marvel" where Robert Eggers expanded "his scope without sacrificing any of his signature style".
