Pierce Brosnan has said he shares a "certain agreement" with his MobLand co-star Helen Mirren over her recent James Bond sexism comments.

Last week Mirren called out the Bond franchise, saying she never liked the films because they were "drenched and born out of profound sexism".

Speaking to People, Brosnan, who stars alongside Mirren in the record breaking Paramount+ crime show MobLand, reacted to Mirren's remarks.

Asked what he thought about Mirren's comments about the British spy, who he famously portrayed in the '90s and early '00s, Brosnan said: "She let them have it. Yes, there’s a certain agreement there."

He added: "But there’s a certain world and room to move within the proscenium arch of what [Bond creator and author] Ian Fleming put down. So there’s always going to be conflict."

In her interview with The Standard Mirren said that, while she isn't a fan of Bond himself, she is a big fan of Bond stars Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

"I have to say I was never a great ward [of Bond], Mirren said. "I’m a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan, I mean massive fan. I mean, oh my god. Obviously, he’s gorgeous and everything, and I think he’s fabulous in MobLand, but he also happens to be one of the nicest people you’ll ever have the pleasure to work with.

"And indeed Daniel Craig, who I’ve met and know a little bit. Again, a very lovely gracious person."

She continued: "The whole series of James Bond, it was not my thing. It really wasn’t. I never liked James Bond. I never liked the way women were in James Bond."

In MobLand, Brosnan and Mirren star as Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, a husband and wife duo who are in charge of a powerful London crime family.

MobLand is available to watch on Paramount+.
