A Minecraft Movie isn't out until Friday (April 4), but early reactions have already started to appear online.
Warner Bros held screenings for the big-screen adaptation of the hugely-popular building game over the weekend, with critics and creators getting their first viewings.
While full reviews of the film — which stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge — will be coming later in the week, those who have seen the film were allowed to share their thoughts on social media.
Opinions are mixed on the whole, with the consensus being that the film is pretty dumb. Some viewers found this enjoyable, while others described it as off-putting.
"The #MinecraftMovie is some of the hardest I've laughed in a theater in a while," wrote Cinelinx's Jordan Maison on BlueSky. "It refuses to take itself seriously which allows for a lot of hilarious moments. Fun in ways I wasn’t expecting."

"If you are looking for a 'serious' flick this won't be your cup of tea; but for those wanting to enjoy a goofy good time at the movies #MinecraftMovie is worth the price of admission," wrote A Geek Daddy, while Patrick B called it "Mine-Blowing! Didn't have the highest expectations but man this is just the kind of movie that people need right now in theaters."
Sylverstone Khandr said: "Definitely more aimed towards the younger crowd, but they had stuff in there for everyone to chirp about, and enough references to point out for the eagle-eyed fans. Also Jennifer Coolidge definitely stole the show for every scene she was in."
Over on X, John Dotson wrote: "One thing nobody will argue while watching #AMinecraftMovie is whether Jared Hess had complete creative control over his own movie. it's better than it has any right to be and delivers genuine laughs. It's also unapologetically stupid."

"#AMinecraftMovie in all honesty, is genuinely a stupidly hilarious adaptation," said Christopher Rates It in a mixed reaction, adding that: "Unfortunately, Jennifer Coolidge and Emma Myers feel wasted in comparison with their story arcs. Are the visuals the greatest? No. Is this an insanely fun time at the cinemas? Yes."
A few critics had completely negative responses to the film, with Jonathan Sim writing: "A Minecraft Movie is the most obnoxious, insufferable video game movie since Borderlands. It desperately wants to be funny and entertaining, but it suffers under bland cinematography and an unfunny script. Jack Black and Jason Momoa are having too much fun."
Jasmine Valentine went one step further, stating: "A Minecraft Movie is easily the worst movie I have seen in years. Not one iota of it is entertaining aside from Jennifer Coolidge, whose back must be breaking from having to hold up this mess. Appalling storyline and script, if you can call them that."
