Wicked has set a huge new record at the global box office, ahead of its upcoming digital release.
The movie, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, has seen tremendous success since its record-breaking debut in November, impressing fans and critics alike. Wicked has secured numerous accolades, becoming the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in US box-office history.
According to Deadline, the Jon M Chu blockbuster has now reached another milestone, overtaking Mamma Mia! as the biggest stage musical adaptation of all time worldwide.

In total, Wicked has raked in an estimated $634.4 million, which includes $424.2 million from the US box office and $210.2 million internationally. Despite its lengthy stay in cinemas, this weekend earned another $13.7 million from 81 markets for the musical hit.
After making its mark at the box office, the movie will soon be available to watch from the comfort of our own homes. Wicked will be released on digital platforms on Friday, January 3 at midnight in the UK, according to the movie's Prime Video listing page.

Meanwhile, Wicked: Part Two recently announced its new title as Wicked: For Good. The second part of the adaptation will be released on November 21, 2025 and is named after the song 'For Good', which follows in the second act of the musical.
Wicked: For Good will see the return of key characters including Elphaba (Erivo), Glinda (Grande), Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).
Wicked is out now in cinemas, and will be released digitally in the US on December 31 and in the UK on January 3, 2025.
