Bourne producer Frank Marshall has suggested that Aaron Cross will not team up with Jason Bourne in the next movie.
Damon is returning to the thriller series having played CIA assassin Bourne in the first three movies, while Jeremy Renner starred as Cross in The Bourne Legacy.
Marshall told Collider when asked about a potential crossover: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks.
"It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn't have a story. It's taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to."
Marshall appears to have changed his opinion, having previously stated in the lead-up to The Bourne Legacy's release: "You see there are several different [special ops] programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open.
"My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up."
What to Read Next
Marshall recently insisted that another Aaron Cross-centric movie starring Renner is still planned, following Damon and Paul Greengrass's return to the series.
The fifth Bourne film will be released July 29, 2016.
