Paul Greengrass has denied that he will be returning to the Bourne franchise.

There have been conflicting reports in recent weeks that director Greengrass and Matt Damon were in talks to work on a new instalment of the series.

Greengrass has since spoken out to Empire to insist that any talk of his return to the Bourne franchise is merely a "figment of someone's imagination".

"Listen, I loved the Bourne movies," he added. "I loved making them but it's like anything in life, you've got to move on and do different things."

The filmmaker added that he and Damon have not even discussed the Bourne franchise in quite some time.

"We might have a laugh about it, but a serious conversation? Not for a long time," Greengrass insisted.
