Men in Black producer Laurie MacDonald has revealed why Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones never reunited for a fourth movie.
The sci-fi comedy franchise was released back in 1997, paving the way for two sequels released in 2002 and 2012. But for fans hoping for more extraterrestrial encounters with Agent J and Agent K, it sounds like their narrative arcs are complete.
The franchise has now expanded worldwide, with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson taking things International.

In conversation with Variety recently, MacDonald shared some behind-the-scenes decisions that eventually killed off the quadrilogy.
"When we finished the third, we did all talk about the fact that we that we didn't feel there was another film," she said. "It was actually in different terms: so we all talked about it feeling very complete, that somehow because the third dealt with the mystery of Will's father – it felt emotionally complete."

"All of us collectively didn't think that we'd go on with that, and we didn't even begin developing this one [International] for a couple of years because we weren't sure we would."
Men in Black: International also features Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson – who appeared as Agent O in the third film in the series.
Thompson is the only performer to reprise her role from the previous movies.
Men in Black: International is released in cinemas this Friday (June 14).
